Impacting Change with Bilingualism, Compassion, and Dance!

Verónica joined the RFSD team at GSES in 2012 and has served in several roles during that time. Her strong bilingual and interpersonal skills have landed her in her current diverse role as Bilingual Front Desk Secretary, Attendance Secretary, Communication Lead, Administrative Assistant, Translator, and Interpreter.

Verónica is passionate about her work. She explains, “It was when I started interpreting for Hispanic families at GSES that I assumed a commitment to help our community to embrace diversity. It makes me really happy to be able to serve as a sort of bridge between people that would not be able to communicate with each other about the education and safety of their children due to a language barrier.” She took this mission beyond GSES, using these skills translating documents and interpreting at events for the RFSD and other institutions in the valley.

Verónica’s bilingual skills were hard-earned. She grew up in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and taught herself English using an old bilingual dictionary her dad gave her. Furthermore, she took a Legal Translation Course of Studies at the School of Law of the University of Buenos Aires. And her dedication to bilingualism persists, “I will keep doing my absolute best to provide a precise and functional translation to honor the high standards that our community members deserve, and to enable effective communication.”

It was also in Buenos Aires that Verónica learned another of her trademark skills: salsa dancing! She’s currently part of the Afro-Latin Dance Team: she’s learning choreography and building up her dance and performance skills. Her passion for dancing and sharing it with others ultimately led her to become a Certified Zumba Instructor–something she has done for adults and kids throughout the community. “Zumba Instructors are like candles; they burn themselves up to give others light.”
