Charity for the Dead

Synopsis:
In Chinese Buddhism and Taoism, hungry ghosts arise from those who have committed evil deeds in their lifetimes. They linger in the human realm, tortured by their insatiable hunger and thirst. The Buddhists and Taoists believe that the living could help these beings escape their endless cycles of suffering by offering food, water and prayers to them, as an act of compassion to the dead.
